Vacation Day 2

When Kaile woke up last night with a high fever, I knew today I was going to find her a doctor to go to. I called her pediatrician and they informed me that I would have to take her to either an urgent care or the ER. The ER seemed a little 'overboard' so I opted for the urgent care that happens to be right off the Island. I found out that this urgent care takes walk-ins till 9am and it was 8:45am and there were no more appointments open, but the nice lady told me to go ahead and come in and they would 'fit' Kaile in! I quickly got me and Kaile dressed and zoomed out the door. Kaile played with a kids meal toy on the floor of the waiting room while we waited...and waited...and waited...for 45 min to be taken back.

After being taken back, we really didn't have to wait long for the doctor to come in. First thing he says was 'she has dark circles under her eyes!'. I was then wondering if he was really referring to me since Kaile wanted to sleep in the bed with me last night, I already don't sleep well when she is with me, but that she kept me up all night tossing and turning!!! I don't know how she gets a good rest with that much movement! The doctor proceeds to ask if Kaile has had her flu shot... well, no. Then asked if I have had mine...nope! 

I am not a parent that takes my kid in to see the doctor every time she gets sick, so that's the reason why I waited to take her in, hoping she would start getting better. She had a bad cough...so I just assumed she had developed Bronchitis and thats what was giving her the fever. Now the doctor sits back and goes 'yep, she has the influenza.'. WHAT! I really thought this guy already had in his mind that here is a sick kid, she probably has the flu since its 'flu season'! He did say she has bronchitis and the he would prescribe an antibiotic, but for the flu, it was too late for antivirals. He then told me that he was going to fill a Rx for ME for some Tamiflu. Then I really thought he was crazy, I don't have ANY sick symptoms. I thanked him and went to the front to check out. This is when it turned bad. As I was filling out my info for the Rx, Kaile starting puking right in the middle of the lobby!!! My first reaction was to catch it in my hand, then I saw a small trash can that I helped her continue to throw up in. This whole time, NO ONE was helping me. My belongings were here, there, and everywhere, me and Kaile had throw up all down us, I was trying to not get Kaile to step in the pile she already did on the floor. All I could do was to get Kaile to the bathroom, told her to stay so I could give my paperwork to the lady and LEAVE. Went back to the front desk and the lady was on the phone...for FOREVER! I asked what she wanted me to do with the throw up on the floor, and she happily smiled and said 'Its okay, go take your daughter home.'. You stupid lady... stop being so happy! There is throw up everywhere and now the throw up trash can is in the bathroom. Oh and I was still holding the pen I was writing with, that had now been covered in puke. I gave her the pen telling her that it needed to be disinfected. She proceeded to grab an empty bottle of hand sanitizer to clean it! REALLY... she will soooo have the flu in a few days. Needless to say, not one person, patients in waiting room or nurses, helped me or even acted like we were in the building. I grabbed Kaile and ran straight for the car!

So I took my sick child back to the house for her to rest. We spent most of the day laying around watching movies. It took a while for her fever to settle so she stayed wrapped up a lot of the time.

We did make an elephant mask craft. She LOVES elephants! 

Finally 4pm came and I needed to figure out dinner. I bundled her up and we headed for the grocery store. Poor girl fell asleep about 1 mile from the store. Even when I took her seat belt off she stayed passed out! I felt bad waking her up, but I was starving! I felt bad eating in front of her when she couldn't eat anything. So the PB&J was no longer holding me over!

Kaile found, in the grocery store, a juice box drink that had the Toy Story characters on it. They were way overpriced for the set of three but I caved in since she couldn't have anything else she wanted.

She never did throw up anymore but did keep complaining that her tummy hurt. With her Zpak and my Tamiflu we should be good to go by the time everyone gets here for the weekend! It feels kinda weird that I probably have the flu virus circulating through me but I have no symptoms yet. I am hoping that the Tamiflu will make it so no symptoms ever show!

Vacation Day 1

Day 1 of vacation has been long but rejuvenating. We packed the car this morning, then we were off to my orthodontic appointment. We ate lunch with an ex-workmate. With our bellies full and car packed, we were finally off to the beach around 2pm. Kaile did lots of whining since she is sick. She eventually passed about our last hour of driving.   

After arriving around 5pm, I had to unpack a completely loaded car, all by myself, up a bunch of stairs. After resting, we ate some leftovers that were 'saved' for us by my dad from over the weekend. Kaile has already made a big mess of her toys... she just wanted me to feel like I was at home and ALWAYS picking up toys! Then we broke out the Easy Bake Oven. This was given to us by another ex-workmate of mine. And this was also our first attempt at using it. Kaile did really well at the 'waiting' part of the whole process. BUT the cake mix and icing were very  old and tasted extremely gross. But hey, Kaile enjoyed the process!

Next was bathtime and jammies. Then Kaile got a pedicure with pink polish and sparkles on her toes. Off to bed without a complaint........ AND THEN she awoke around 11:45pm with another fever! Unfortunately there is no thermometer down here, but she was burning up and shivering. Poor thing, I guess we will be finding a pediatrician in Hampstead tomorrow to take her to. 

Overall a very good and relaxing day. I just hope Day 2 will go good even though she is sick. I had planned on taking her tomorrow to an ice skating rink I found in Wilmington. Its cheap, only $15 for both of us to skate, including skate rentals. We will see what tomorrow brings!

Meaningless Mondays

Strawberry Puree

Kaile has been into fruits and vegetables ever since our last WIC appointment where they gave her an Elmo DVD on nutrition. This past week, we went to walmart to stock up on some fruits and vegetables before our WIC check expired. She picked out bananas, watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, and I got some broccoli. She wont eat any of these, with the exception of bananas, but at least she is now interested in getting these... and they're FREE! She has gotten to the point now where she will at least lick the fruits. So with the extra strawberries we had, I decided we would make some strawberry puree to go with our blueberry waffles that I was going to make for dinner.

We chopped the strawberries and cored them with my handy Pampered Chef 'Core and More'! And yes, these are Kaile's little hands doing it in the picture.

Next, I course chopped them and added them to a pot with sugar...

Then some vanilla extract...

Mmmmmm smells good!

We let it boil for 5 minutes.

Afterward we let it cool enough to put in my food processor and pureed.

Later that night, we started making waffles with my Belgium waffle maker!

Kaile of course had her waffle without the blueberries added.

And now with the blueberries.

As we were eating dinner I looked at Bryan and got a laugh out of the fact that he was eating Blueberry waffles with Strawberry puree and drinking a Beer!

Then he wanted a 'funny' shot. Drinking the beer and eating the waffle at the same time! Only Bryan.

Finally I got a shot of Kaile eating her plain waffle with no syrup, no puree... just powdered sugar

Dancing Feet

Kaile started her dance class at The Little Gym today. She did okay at listening. She really likes doing what she wants to do and not necessarily what the teacher is teaching them. For example, Kaile used her butt to spin on the floor while the teacher Rachael was teaching the girls ballet positions. Although I would love for her to be perfect, she's who she is and she had alot of fun! The last gymnastics class had WAY TOO MANY kids in there and she was overwhelmed. I am hoping this class will stay the way it was today! There were 5 little girls total, and NO boys - which she is not very fond of them right now.

They started with Tap. And this was the cutest thing to hear their little happy feet all over the floor!

Here teacher Rachael was teaching them something about peanut butter and squashing it with their foot. Don't know the technical names for this dance stuff since I only did gymnastics.

Next they switched their tap shoes to ballet shoes. Each little girl got a scarf and went to dancing. She taught them about quick feet, slow feet, little feet... wow, I feel like maybe she read 'The Foot Book' before!

Lastly, they moved into the gym for some gymnastics. Kinda funny because she showed those girls up on this part, and you could tell she was felt more comfortable doing what she already knew. But she will catch on to the dance past soon... well she has a whole 20 weeks to catch on! :)

Kaile's 'Big Show'

This semester in gymnastics marks her 1 year anniversary. She has came along way from when she first started until now. We began her gymnastics career as a parent-child class. But this past fall, she moved up to the older class where I have to sit in the waiting room and watch. She has done very good at staying in there by herself and following directions!

Here she is when she first started. As you can see, she still was attached to her passy.

Here is one of our make-up classes, where Daddy got to join in, while I took pictures.

Now back to the present...This is the 'Program' that we got when we came in.

Here are all the kid's names, and on the right was what they were doing in their routines.

Okay, so he are the pictures of her doing her skills. Let me warn you... I forgot my camera that morning, so all of these pictures were taken with my phone... and they are BLURRY. And no its not your eyes!

After their intro of running in and doing their 'warm-up'. They brought out noodles for them to do various tasks with. I think Kaile is trying to do a forward roll over the noodle.

Teacher Damien gets them to line up in a train to keep the kids together while moving to the next station. Kaile is second to the end. She pushed that end boy back because she wanted to hold the shoulders of a girl and not a boy! I know right!

They started on the bars for their first routine. Here Kaile is stepping up on teacher Damien's leg to pull up to a front support.

And a 'Basket Hang' to finish the bar routine.

Next, they moved to the beam, where they did many skills down it...

And then onto the floor. Here she is doing her 'monkey jump', aka cart-wheel to most but not at TLG, over the mat.

They did the vault last, but she was not interested and I had no more energy to move to the other side and get a picture with my crappy phone! The phone and I were Done!

Next they had 'free play'. I guess they did this so they could set up the end stuff. So this is where Wyatt got to play on the equipment! He did a really good job! I think its partly because he doesn't have much fear. He let me swing him over the bars, and he walked down the high beam, with my help, and then jumped off the end onto a squishy mat!

All the kids re-grouped and the teachers gave each one, including Wyatt, a scarf to play with. Kaile ALWAYS chooses pink, so I guess thats why Wyatt did too! ;-)

At the end of every class they will circle up and sing their goodbye song. Wyatt was a very good listener as he did everything the teacher asked the kids to do. He is sitting straight in front of the camera and Kaile is off to the right.

This coming up Friday will start her new class of Dance. They still do a little bit of gymnastics, but this class includes Tap, Ballet, and creative movement. I think she was getting burnt out on her class and its big size. And she has been asking to be a ballerina for a while now, so that's why we made the switch at the new Winter/Spring semester. We will see if we have a budding ballerina on our hands!
